My passion with latch hook crafts has evolved into a strong desire to give back to the community.  I started out creating latch hook hangings and pillows as gifts for many friends and relatives on special occasions such as birthdays and holidays.  The joy and pleasure that was expressed by the recipients gave me the incentive to carry my hobby into a charitable mission.

From that point, I began donating pillows to raise funds for two particular organizations.  Dachshund Rescue Pet Services, social gatherings in Guilford, Connecticut has become a regular event that welcomes our donated latch hook pillows.  We are donating our pillows to their raffle table which helps to raise money for personal and veterinary care until the rescued animals are place with a loving family.  Another organization that we donate pillows to help raise money is the Animal Haven of North Haven, Connecticut.  They are a shelter that helps place animals but if no home is found, allow the animals to live out their lives at Animal Haven.  Therefore, it is necessary to have many fundraisers during the year for the personal and veterinary care of the animals.  Some of the events we have participated in were the December 2008 Christmas Fair and also the March 2009 Wine Tasting Silent Auction.

My first step from donations to directly raising money for a charitable organization took place at a craft sale I participated in December 2008.The event was a holiday craft fair at Temple Beth Tikvah Synagogue in Madison, Connecticut.  I brought along two of my latch hook hangings and twenty of my pillows.  My idea was to donate a portion of the money raised to the “Make a Wish Foundation”.  This people who patronized my table were appreciative of my approach to donate money from my sales to a charitable organization.

Most of this past summer, I have been busy working on my creations to have them ready for my next endeavor.  One idea I have been giving careful thought to is a major donation of my pillows to children being treated for cancer at a local hospital such as Yale in New Haven, Connecticut.  It would be a completely philanthropic mission.  Also, I would like to participate in some organized craft sales in the fall and winter months to continue making donations to additional organizations helping sick children.  As I have been fortunate in my life so far to have been given many positive opportunities, I want to give back now and help others.
